Chateau de Melin

Since the French Revolution, six generations of winegrowers have succeeded each other. In the 1930s, Paul Dumay farmed about ten hectares in the Maranges valley. When he died in 1968, his daughter Marie-Claire Derats-Dumay and her husband Jean-Claude took over the Domaine Paul Dumay. Between 1970 and 1995, they acquired many small plots in Côtes de Beaune and Côtes de Nuits, the estate then comprised 15 hectares. In 2000, Arnaud, their son, who trained as an engineer, took over the family business. Together with his wife Helene, they bought the Chateau de Melin, located in the town of Auxey-Duresses, and decided to set up the family wine estate there.

The Domaine du Chateau de Melin currently operates 22 hectares of vines and thus produces 22 appellations: 20 in Côtes de Beaune and 2 in Cotes de Nuits.

Vinification still takes place in the vat room in Sampigny-les-Maranges, while the aging and bottling of the wines are done at the Chateau.

In its pursuits of quality and sustainability while expressing the uniqueness of its terroirs, Chateau de Melin decided to convert the estate to organic cultivation. With their commitment, they were awarded the “Bio” certification in 2012.
