BOV

BOV stands for Biodynamic, Organic & Vegan

The fast pace of today’s growth has led to unprecedented pollution and unethical methods to cope with feeding the world’s population. The holy grail of beverages, Wines, are not spared either. For the quick turn of vines to maximize profits, vineyards across the world turn to pesticides to protect their crops from insect damage.

BOV By Barworks Wine & Spirits Pte Ltd is our core focus since 2019 to revamp our wine selections to better address the health concerns of today’s discerning wine lovers. BOV Wines is our renewed company direction to focus on working with responsible, sustainable, ethical, and nature-loving wineries as the majority of our wine selections for you.

What makes an organic wine? These wines are made from grapes that have been grown without the use of synthetic chemicals, such as herbicides and pesticides. To keep the weeds and bugs at bay, organic farmers work with nature, rather than against it, by boosting their vineyard’s biodiversity. Beside Organic Wines, we also go a step further by providing Biodynamic Wines as well. The majority of our wines are either in conversion or already certified and carry the following certifications.

Standards setting follows a highly transparent process with the industry’s key stakeholders providing input via approximately a dozen Australian Organic Advisory Groups. These standards are upheld by rigorous auditing of operations and a third-party report reviewing process. The process itself is audited by government departments and authorities worldwide for ACO to maintain its accreditation as an international certifier.

Wine can be defined as “Organic” when it is produced according to the Regulation of the European Commission (EC) no. 203/2012, that is:(in the vineyard) produced from “organic” grapes;(in the cellar) produced using only products and processes authorized by the Regulation (EC) No 203/2012. Until 2012, there were no EU rules or definitions of “organic wine”. Only grapes could be certified organic and only the mention of “wine made from organic grapes” was allowed. In February 2012, new EU rules have been agreed upon. The new regulation has identified oenological techniques and substances to be authorized for organic wine, including a maximum sulfite content (set at 100 mg per liter for red wine and 150 mg/L for white/rosé).

The V-Label is an internationally recognized, registered symbol for labeling vegan and vegetarian products and services. For consumers, it is a simple and reliable guide to help them when they are shopping. With the V-Label, companies promote transparency and clarity.

AB is the abbreviation for Agriculture Biologique (organic agriculture), used on the label. It is not unique to vineyards. The official pan-European AB label was created in 1985. It ensures that the wine is produced from grapes having received no chemical treatment in the last three years (minimum). Treatments are replaced by natural products, including sulfur and copper – albeit in tightly controlled limits – and natural insecticides and pesticides. In France, the AB label is controlled by the French Ministry of Agriculture and for vineyards by INAO (l’Institut National de l’Origine et de la Qualité), the same organization that controls the AOC (Appellation d’Origine Controlée or Protegée).

BioGro has been certifying New Zealand Organic Winegrowers for over 25 years. Adhering to the definition by the Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) as – avoiding or excluding the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, antibiotics, growth modification, and irradiation. As with other USDA organic products, organic wine is made without using prohibited substances or genetic engineering. It undergoes the same rigorous requirements of USDA organic certification as other products throughout its lifecycle (Five Steps to Organic Certification). And, in addition to being overseen by the USDA National Organic Program, it has to meet the requirements of the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, especially for sulfite labeling requirements.
